teaching hipsters to not take themselves so seriously and telling emo kids to stop being pussies

cobra starship is an american dance pop band formed in 2006 and are everything to me. this band is my favorite band ever (tied with the academy is). i started listening to them in late october 2020 and they immediately took over my brain. i started listening as part of a "oh i should listen to some artists i've heard mentioned a lot" moment, that promptly got cut short by me listening to cobras for days on end. i thought i would fall out of my obsession, but that has yet to happen. my favorite member is gabe saporta, i love him a worrying amount and he is on my mind at any given moment. if you think you or anyone loves him more than me, you're dead wrong. im legally married to the album viva la cobra and we are so happy together XD. though i don't know as much abt cobras as i do abt tai, i still know so so much and would be ecstatic if you asked me abt them. cobras never die!

gabey baby made me go bad

gabriel eduardo saporta is the love of my life. i spend every moment of my life, both waking and sleeping, thinking about him. find more here. yep, that's right, i love him so much he gets a whole page all to his own

so what you've got a crew?

now that you're back from looking at my gabe page, here's the rest of cobra starship ٩(^ᴗ^)۶

it is only right to start with the first official cobra: nate novarro, aka nasty nate. gabe met him while nate was working merch for hidden in plain view, the later as the drum tech for armor for sleep (who gabe managed). he moved all the way from georgia to live in gabe's basement in jersey to start cobras. he is so small he fits in the palm on your hand and has to get custom drums made. also we had a very silly conversation through instagram dms on christmas 2022.

the next 2 joined at the same time so let's do this alphabetically by last name. first, ryland blackinton aka pleasure ryland aka infinityonry aka the tallest fucker on fbr. he is the guitarist, though he also did a lot of synth work. he is 34 feet tall (about 6'7" iirc). he is a killer fucking musician who brought a lot to cobras, clearest on viva la cobra. he's so sily

now to alex suarez aka suareasy. he plays bass and is generally a swell dude LOL he was long term friends with ryland and they actually had their own group together pre-cobras called "this is ivy league." they also almost join ben kweller's band together which i think is silly. i just think he's neat

and last, but not least: vicky-t aka victoria asher aka la hoya (gabe's nickname, not mine). she plays the keytar. she actually replaced the original keytarist who i won't talk abt here LOLLL i am deeply attracted to her because im a lesbian. problematic sex with my cancelled wife or whatever

the cities asleep and the world is mine

cobra starship was born of gabe tripping on peyote in an arizona desert and seeing a flying cobra from the future that told him that he had to make sure the world goes out in style by "teaching hipsters to not take themselves so seriously and by telling emo kids to stop being pussies." they got their first real jump by writing the song "bring it (snakes on a plane)" for the movie snakes on a plane.. duh. most ppl thought the connect of cobra starship and snakes on a plane meant they were a gimmick band. until they released "while the city sleeps, we rule the streets" in 2006. this album kicks ass. it opens with a goodbye note to the post hardcore scene gabe loved so much, and has banger after banger all the way through. but ppl still thought cobras was a side spoof project not to be taken seriously -__-

your guilty motherfucking pleasure

in 2007, cobras came back with an even more killer album that proved the haters wrong. "¡viva la cobra!" (almost titled "cobralingus" LOLLLLLLL) is cobras best album, no questions asked. my personal fave cobras song is on this album. it's a campy, biting album poking fun at the hollow pop music world and the self-aggrandizing stuffiness of the emo scene all packed into one glorious dance party. seriously, listen to this album. it will make your life better

hot mess and im falling for you

hot mess era was really the most well known of cobras. the album hot mess was released 2009 and has the hit singles "hot mess" (take a shot every time i say "hot mess" LOL) and "good girls go bad." the neon color sexfest took to the mainstream and solidified cobra starship's fame

make me feel so...

night shades was released in 2011 and is rather unremarkable. gabe himself has said it's mediocre and very rushed. it didnt come from the place of passion that their other albums came from. the only thing it really offers is the song "you make me feel..." that i listened to every day on the bus in elementary school and allowed gabe to bury himself into my mind until my autism was activated like a sleeper agent
